Gliocladium virens, the active component in SOILGARD®, is a soil fungus that is antagonistic to plant pathogenic fungi such as Pythium, Rhizoctonia, Sclerotinia spp., Phytophthora capsici, Sclerotium, and Fusarium root and crown rots, thereby aiding in control of these “damping off” and root rot pathogens. SOILGARD® is a granular formulation containing a high concentration of G. virens spores suitable for incorporation into soil or soilless media. SOILGARD® acts as a preventative and will protect non-infected plants. It may not, however, cure already diseased plants.
